Tracking every calorie you consume manually isn’t exactly fun, but third-party apps with massive food databases can make the task much easier. With the iPhone 15, those same apps will be able to automatically document nutrient information through Apple’s new Trend feature.
Tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also indicated that the iPhone 15 Pro will have a UWB chip for faster location tracking that could work with Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset.
Wellness Companion
The iPhone 15 Pro includes a host of wellness features that put the phone in your hand to better manage health and fitness. For example, it uses AI (Apple is hesitant to use the word) to deliver clearer call audio by suppressing noises like wind and traffic.
The iPhone 15 Pro also delivers hardware-accelerated ray tracing to improve video quality and enhances augmented reality apps. It also adds support for the Academy Color Encoding system used by filmmakers.
Another addition is Emergency SOS via Satellite, which helps users in remote areas reach assistance with help from AAA and others. This feature works even when your phone can’t get a cellular or WiFi signal. Other wellness capabilities include a new StandBy mode that activates when your phone is in proximity to a MagSafe charger or a Qi-enabled wireless charging pad. It will also detect when your phone is in landscape mode and will switch to the appropriate screen orientation.
Health and Fitness Tracking
Modern versions of iOS have built-in motion and fitness tracking that estimates pivotal health-centric data like steps, body movement, stairs claimed, mobility, and more. However, sometimes this feature doesn’t work as well as you would hope and can dampen your motivation to get more fit.
The iPhone’s Fitness app keeps a record of your daily trending data and can show you weekly activity summaries. You can also view progress toward your Move goal, and share progress and trends with friends or family.
A new WatchOS 9 feature gives the Apple Watch a bit more insight into heart rate variability (HRV). HRV is a metric that can be a useful indicator of current health and future resilience.

Health Apps
The iPhone 15 Pro has a lot of tools to help you stay healthy. It has tools to track your weight, sleep and fitness. It also has tools to help you manage your stress.
Besides your weight, the Health app can keep track of other metrics such as body fat percentage, heart rate, blood pressure and more. It can even give you personalized tips to help you improve your health.
Apple’s Medical ID feature lets you store your emergency contacts, blood type and allergies in a handy place that can be accessed from the lock screen. You can also tell it what medicines you take and whether you’re an organ donor.
Starting with iOS 15, you can share your health data with family members through the Health app. The app can automatically detect trends in shared data and present them at a glance. It can even notify the person you’re sharing with when new trends are detected.
Wearable Integration
Apple’s smartwatch ecosystem continues to play a critical role in health and fitness tracking. That’s especially true for the Apple Watch Series 4, which is getting an upgrade that will let it better sync with the iPhone 15 Pro to help with nutrition and diet tracking.
The new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max feature a titanium design that’s lighter and stronger than previous models. They also offer an interactive Dynamic Island — the pill-shaped black cutout in the top of the screen — that can display music controls, incoming phone calls, AirDrop transfers, app alerts and more.
They include a second-generation ultrawideband chip that allows them to connect with other devices more seamlessly. It’s similar to the U1 chip in iPhone 11 but with improved performance at a shorter range and lower power consumption. They also support MagSafe and future Qi2 wireless charging. And they support eSIM, making them the first smartphone to do so.
